Are you a proud member of the Audi community? If so are you aware of the new compact production car that is coming for Audi in the form of the Q5? The Q5 looks to get into the smaller crossover market as gas prices continue to rise and the out cry for smaller more gas efficient vehicles is reaching a fevered pitch. As gas continues to rise and hybrid cars are more and more in demand perhaps Audi will push through the technology on the Q5 due in 2009 to be released with a hybrid version. Check out the video clip on the Q5 and read the following article discussing some of the more intricate details regarding the build specs for the Audi Q5. The Audi Q5 — an Elegant Compact Crossover
Built by the German automaker Audi, the Q5 is somewhat of a compact crossover which lays the foundation for the Q7, this model is yet to be released as a 2009 version and it is being built using the modular longitudinal platform which is also referred to as MLP, this same technology was also featured in the A5 coupe.
The new vehicle will be built in Ingolstadt as other models before. It will require an investment of around US$400 million. The Q5 will also be produced in Changchun, China to compete with other mid class vehicles on the Chinese markett. Despite a similar concept car named “Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro” shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2007, the first public available introduction of the new Q5 was at the Beijing Auto Show on the 19th April 2008. It features a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a hybrid petrol/electric is also expected to developed. When it comes to the transmission, this vehicle counts with a six speed automatic one which controls the 4 Wheel Drive system. Cha
According to its design it is able to compete with similar vehicles from different manufacturing houses such as the Infinity EX (by Nissan), the Acura RDX (by Honda), the Mercedes-Benz GLK-class, the Volvo XC60 and the BMW X3 built by the manufacturer with the same name.
At the moment the engine configurations are somewhat limited however, in the future it is expected to become available as a hybrid (gasoline and electric), a gasoline and petrol version and as a turbocharged direct injection vehicle also known as TDI.
Harmon/Becker Automotive Systems will produce the the German Automaker’s new Multi-Media Interface (MMI) technology. It will be available for the first time in the Audi Q5. The system will probably offer navigation, communication, and not to forget wide-screen entertainment. Nvidia (known for it’s computer graphic cards) presented a new concept of processors recently. Those are based on their computer graphic card technology. This technology is also used in scientific computers because the chips are potentially 20 times faster than Intel’s pentium processors. One of them will be the base for the new MMI system, allowing generation of smooth map transitions when driving. With the technology a 3D orientation map with true-to-scale terrain and photo realistic depictions of key landmarks is made possible in cars for the first time. Finally with the new system Audi implements features including USB storage media (iPod and MP3), satellite radio and blue tooth.
Expected delivery dates to dealers are late Summer 2008 for Europe, and early 2009 in North America as a 2009 year model. Future powertrain options for the United States market have yet to be announced.
The Quattro Four-Wheel Drive:
This system is one-of-a-kind because it controls all four wheels asymmetrically, it means that if one of the tires is in danger of losing grip the system will redistribute the power among the rest of the wheels in order to restore the control to the driver as well as to minimize accidents. The Quattro Four-Wheel Drive system is now available not only in the Q5 but also in other Audi models for around 5000-1000 US $.
