Remember When We Use To Put Gas In Our Cars

Automakers are up against the ropes when it comes to their financial standings and the global economy. Lucky for them there are a few governments around the world that are starting to come to their rescue with soft loans right from the government to spur them on. Specifically for the development of alternative fuel vehicles to combat the populations dependency on gas powered vehicles.

The US governments plan to offer up $25 billion dollars in “loans” to each US automakers. It’s been no secret that US automakers have been loosing billions of dollars for the last couple of years. The $25 billion to each automaker will be used to update their plants and move them all forward in terms of research to create new technologies as an alternative to gas driven cars.

Now the UK government has also issued a similar soft loan offer of $100 million to develop a fleet of 100 electric or low emission vehicles to be tested by government agencies for real world driving experience and data collecting. It’s an offer that some of the top auto companies from around the world are hoping to take advantage of. Automakers are also pushing the European Union to pony up a similar soft loan offer of $40 billion dollars.

These are just three examples of governments from around the world starting to respond to global crisis that has become a top priority for everyday people around the world. The obvious reason for this sudden change of heart of course was the insane rise of gas prices over the summer. I think the world finally let out a collective moan and stop the insanity plea. Let’s face it there has been a growing movement around the world to go green and lucky for the go green movements the price of gas went through the roof. If not for that you would not have seen the public out cry that there was for a fundamental change in the way we fuel and drive our vehicles. I can not wait to have a car I can just plug in!

Subcompact Electric Nissan for PasadenaThe irony of this whole fiasco of course is that all the groups that have been preaching save the environment and go green for all these years finally got the media coverage and public backing they have always been missing because of the very oil companies they have been fighting against all these years. If those gas prices did not go up as high as they did we may not have seen the kind of fundamental changes coming in the next few years to go green for maybe another decade or two.  So thank you big oil companies for helping the world see that we all need to go green and someday I will be able to say to my kids “I remember when we use to put gas in our cars!”

[...] Go green cars go, remember that old cartoon about the kid and his car the Speed Racer anime cartoon and that repetitive theme song? For what ever reason that song was in my head the other day when I drove by a dealership that had a sign up that said go green car go. Underneath the sign was of course a collection of used green cars for sale. Now when you used to talk about green cars back in the day you were talking about the color of the car like the old green Dodge that your mom and dad used to drive ;-)   Now a days though when people talk about green cars they are talking about hybrids, electric or any other alternatively fueled car.
